Before joining Chartwell Law, Katie was an associate in the Raleigh office of a North Carolina law firm and served as a legal specialist for a former Commissioner of the North Carolina Industrial Commission. Katie was intricately involved with Penegar v. United Parcel Service, 815 S.E.2d 391 (N.C. Ct. App. 2018), a claim in which the North Carolina Court of Appeals upheld the Commission’s average weekly wage calculation in a retiree’s claim, resulting in hundreds of thousands of dollars savings to the employer.

Before attending law school, Katie was a laboratory technologist with a large clinical healthcare company, using her chemistry degree to perform maternal screening tests and adult genetic testing. Outside of the office, she enjoys spending time with her family, crafting, and serving at her church.
