MONA SARMADI is a partner with Chartwell’s New York City office. Ms. Sarmadi received a B.S. in Political Science from Arizona State University in 2008 and a J.D. from New York Law School in 2012.
 
While in law school, Ms. Sarmadi secured a coveted internship at the United Nations-Women Division. She drafted briefs to support missions enhancing women’s economic empowerment in programme countries and monitored policy initiatives on Rule of Law and Transitional Justice issues. She was a member of the New York Civil Liberties Union, a member of the Legal Association for Women and a member of the International Law Society. Ms. Sarmadi also participated in the Everybody Wins Program, a leading nonprofit literacy and mentoring organization, wherein she volunteered her time reading to children on a weekly basis. 
 
Prior to joining Chartwell, Ms. Sarmadi was an associate at Weiss, Wexler & Wornow, P.C., a large workers’ compensation defense firm in New York City. She served in many roles there including representing self-insured employers, carriers and third party administrators at hearings before the Workers’ Compensation Board on a daily basis. Additionally, Ms. Sarmadi has tried numerous cases and has made appearances at all of the downstate and many upstate New York hearing points.  Handling this high volume of cases, she has become familiar with most of the workers’ compensation law judges and claimant’s counsels involved in this legal field. In addition to trials, she has conducted many depositions of medical witnesses.
 
Ms. Sarmadi has extensive experience in analyzing, negotiating and drafting Section 32 settlement agreements as well as stipulated agreements. She has also performed legal research, drafted and filed multiple appeals, when necessary. 
 
Ms. Sarmadi is committed to the defense of insured and self-insured entities in New York workers’ compensation matters. 
 
Ms. Sarmadi is fluent in Farsi.
