CHARLES J. BARRERAS is a founding partner in the Chartwell Law Offices, LLP, where he handles employment law, general liability, insurance coverage, Heart & Lung, premises liability and workers’ compensation matters on behalf of the firm’s insurance company, self insured governmental and quasi-governmental clients.  He is admitted to practice in Pennsylvania, before the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania and New York.  He is a 1987 graduate of Drexel University and a 1992 cum laude graduate of Temple University School of Law, where he attended as an evening division student.

Mr. Barreras began his legal career with Wright, Young & McGilvery, P.C., where he litigated various automobile, general liability, insurance coverage, medical malpractice, automobile, and workers’ compensation matters.  In 1996 he became associated with the Philadelphia firm Weber Goldstein Greenberg & Gallagher, LLP, where he devoted his practice to handling automobile, general liability and workers’ compensation, matters.  In 1999 he became the managing partner of Weber Goldstein’s Reading, Pennsylvania office, where he worked until the founding of the Chartwell Law Offices, LLP on February 13, 2002.  Since that time he has helped the firm grow from a four (4) lawyer workers’ compensation “boutique” firm with one (1) office in Pennsylvania to an international, full service law firm with more than one hundred (120) attorneys and seventeen (17) offices throughout Florida, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island and Tennessee.

Mr. Barreras has been named by Philadelphia Magazine, and the Pennsylvania Edition of Super Lawyers Magazine, a Super Lawyer in Pennsylvania since 2008.  This is a distinction limited to only five percent (5%) of attorneys practicing in a state.

While attending law school at night, Mr. Barreras worked during the day first as an SIU investigator with Equifax and then as a multi-lines claims adjuster for an independent adjusting company, where he handled all aspects of automobile, general liability, property and workers’ compensation claims.  Thus, he brings practical claims handling experience to the practice of law.  He is a member of the Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, and Berks County Bar Associations.

Mr. Barreras served honorably for fourteen (14) years in the United States’ Army Reserve, as both an enlisted soldier in an aviation unit and a Commissioned Officer in the Civil Affairs branch.  He attained the rank of Captain before entering the Individual Ready Reserve (IRR).

His military awards include the Army Service Ribbon (1983); Basic Parachutist’s Badge (1985); Army Achievement Medal (1989), with Oak Leaf Clusters (1991 & 1996); Reserve Forces Overseas Service Ribbon (1989), with Oak Leaf Clusters (1991, 1993 & 1994); Joint Services Commendation Medal (Haiti - 1995); and The Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal (Haiti - 1995).

Chuck is married, and he and his wife, Suzanne, have four (4) wonderful children.  He enjoys spending time with his family, travelling, fishing and reading.
