JAMES R. MYERS is the managing partner of the Fort Myers office of Chartwell. Mr. Myers concentrates his practice in civil litigation defense, focusing  on construction defect claims, insurance claim disputes and coverage analysis, and real estate errors and omissions.  Mr. Myers also handles commercial contract disputes,  products liability,  premises liability and personal injury claims in Florida federal and state courts. He also defends federal flood insurance claims brought under the National Flood Insurance Program and FEMA regulations for hurricane and flood losses in Florida.  

Mr. Myers graduated from Purdue University with a B.S. in Industrial Management. He earned his law degree from Saint Louis University School of Law, graduating cum laude, ranking 13th in his class of 228.   He is a Florida Supreme Court Certified circuit and county court civil mediator, and Florida Supreme Court qualified arbitrator. 

Mr. Myers spent his first seven years in practice with a 125-lawyer multi-state corporate firm where he obtained a broad-based litigation background in areas including real property, eminent domain, construction, commercial and residential foreclosures, contract and commercial tort disputes, landlord and tenant litigation, and condominium and homeowners association law.

While in law school, he became a member of the Order of the Woolsack (Jesuit school equivalent to Order of the Coif), was inducted in to Alpha Sigma Nu National Jesuit Honor Society, and served as Executive Editor of the St. Louis University Law Journal. He was also awarded a faculty fellowship and spent a summer researching and writing for the law school’s Torts and Real Property professors.

Prior to law school, Mr. Myers spent seven years as a property and casualty insurance professional in Harleysville, PA, and was an Independent Agent for Harleysville Mutual Insurance Company. During that time, he achieved both the Chartered Property and Casualty Underwriters (CPCU) and the Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC) professional designations.
