Marissa J. Huber focuses her practice on defending employers in New York State in indemnity and medical exposure cases filed by injured workers. She is committed to providing high caliber legal services to her clients, making sure that their rights are maintained when claims are filed against them.

Ms. Huber handles a variety of claims including construction claims, hotel claims, small employer claims, restaurant claims and HVAC claims, as well as others. She has experience defending a matter from inception through to litigation or settlement, and has also been brought on in the middle of litigation to handle a specific issue.

Before joining Chartwell Law, Ms. Huber worked at a workers’ compensation claimants’ law firm in New York City where she successfully litigated many cases on behalf of firm clients. This background gives her clients an advantage, since she is familiar with how the other side is thinking. In addition to daily court appearances at that firm, Ms. Huber gained extensive experience deposing medical providers and independent medical examiners. She has also conducted workers’ compensation trials taking witness testimony on various issues, including conducting claimant testimony as it pertains to the mechanism of the alleged injury, and conducting cross-examination testimony of employer witnesses regarding their knowledge, or lack thereof, of the underlying allegations.

While in law school, Ms. Huber attained at highly sought-after judicial externship working as a student judicial law clerk to the Hon. Kenneth P. Neiman with the U.S. District Court for the District of Massachusetts. Ms. Huber analyzed numerous Social Security Disability appellate briefs in support of motions to appeal and motions in opposition to the Social Security Administration’s decision to either grant or deny a citizen’s application for social security disability benefits. After extensive legal research on the issues, she was entrusted with the responsibility of drafting multiple final judicial opinions either affirming or remanding the decision delivered by the SSA.
