MIKHAIL IOKHELES is an associate at Chartwell’s New York City office. He earned his undergraduate and law degrees from McGill University in 2006 and 2009, respectively. He obtained a B.A. from the Faculty of Arts in Political Science and Economics after completing a four-year Joint Honors program in three years. He obtained a B.C.L./LL.B. after graduating with distinction from the Faculty of Law, where Mr. Iokheles completed some of his coursework in French. He also spent a semester in Australia at Melbourne Law School and studied Talmudic Law in Israel at Machon Yaakov.
While in law school, Mr. Iokheles served as a research assistant for a law professor, with whom he collaborated in publishing “Factual Causation and Healthcare-Associated Infections” in the Health Law Journal. Mr. Iokheles also competed in the Wilson Moot Court, represented students in disciplinary and grievance proceedings as an advocate in the Student Advocacy Program, and provided legal information to the public as a volunteer at the Legal Information Clinic.
Following law school, Mr. Iokheles spent several years in the insurance industry. He began his career as an underwriter at The Hartford, where he specialized in Directors & Officers, Employment Practices, Fiduciary, Crime, and Kidnap & Ransom coverages. Next, he transitioned to an up-and-coming brokerage, where he served a variety of businesses and non-profit organizations in fulfilling their insurance needs. He worked with the whole gamut of commercial insurance: Property, Workers’ Compensation, General Liability, Errors & Omissions, Cyber, Products Liability, and Management Liability. Recognized for his expertise, Mr. Iokheles was invited to teach attorneys and entrepreneurs about these coverages. He also published an article on a popular startup blog.
Ultimately, Mr. Iokheles decided to pursue his passion for the law. Prior to joining Chartwell, Mr. Iokheles practiced at a workers’ compensation firm representing claimants. Having worked for a carrier and a claimants’ firm, Mr. Iokheles possesses a deep understanding of his clients and the challenges they face.
Mr. Iokheles is also passionate about giving back to his community. He has sat on a number of young leadership boards of various Jewish organizations and has mentored young adults in the community.
Mr. Iokheles is a member of the New York State Bar Association, including its Torts, Insurance & Compensation Law section, and the Society of New York Workers’ Compensation Bar Association.
Mr. Iokheles is fluent in Russian.
