Angel M. Gomez represents insurance carriers, self-insureds, and businesses in workers' compensation defense matters throughout New York. His background includes counseling and defending professional employer organizations (PEO) and gig economy clients. He handles a wide range of issues, including high exposure, causation, apportionment, permanency, and degree of disability. He also manages complex construction disputes and section 114-a violations.
Additionally, Angel has experience handling appellate division appeals on prevalent issues in workers' compensation. He has drafted numerous memoranda of law on various topics, ranging from degree of disability to permanency, at the Board Panel level.
Angel plays a crucial role in nurturing future legal talent by leading the law clerk program within the New York workers’ compensation practice group. He also co-leads the New York summer associate program. Outside of the office, Angel contributes to the academic field by teaching business law to business and accounting college students, including those studying for the CPA exam.
Prior to joining Chartwell Law, Angel represented claimants before the New York Workers’ Compensation Board, where he negotiated settlements for his clients resulting in favorable agreements. He also spent time as an assistant district attorney for Kings County District Attorney’s Office in Brooklyn, New York, where he was responsible for investigations, collecting evidence, and preparing civilian and NYPD witnesses for hearings, trials, and presentations to the Brooklyn Grand Jury for indictment.
While in law school, Angel interned with several organizations — Community Legal Aid in Springfield, Massachusetts, Criminal Defense Division of the Public Defender’s Office in Enfield, Connecticut, and the Employment Rights Division of the Attorney General’s Office in Hartford, Connecticut.
