Abbey R. Lacheen devotes her practice exclusively to workers’ compensation defense litigation representing self-insured employers, insurance companies, and businesses in New Jersey and Pennsylvania.
Her clients range from mid-sized regional businesses to some of the largest companies in the United States. Abbey’s extensive experience includes:
• Handling the complex issues that arise in cross-border and multi-jurisdictional workers’ compensation matters.
• Counseling clients on new COVID-19 laws and presumptive laws impacting national employers.
• Determining Medicare Set-Aside fund allocations to pay for future medical services related to work injuries.
Abbey believes that the practice of law is more than just handling a file. Her clients are very important to her and she takes a personal interest in their businesses as if they were her own. Her clients consider her to be a trusted advisor and partner, aggressive, pragmatic, responsive, and cost-effective, always keeping them informed while being mindful of their goals.
Notably, Abbey was one of the first female equity partners at Chartwell. She is the managing partner of the firm’s New Jersey practice; is a member of the firm’s administrative management committee; serves as the workers’ compensation coordinator of the firm’s Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and New York offices; and is a member of the firm’s Medicare Set-Aside team. She is also active within the firm’s legal education outreach initiatives and mentoring new attorneys.
Abbey has authored several articles on workers’ compensation issues and regularly conducts educational seminars for clients across the country. She participates in the Annual National Workers’ Compensation and Disability Conference and the National RIMS Conference. In addition, Ms. Lacheen is an active participant in the New Jersey Self-Insurers’ Association and has presented on “Case Law & Legislative Update” at the association’s annual conference.
Abbey is devoted to her family. When she is not working, she enjoys spending time with her husband and two daughters at the beach and in the Pocono Mountains, cheering for her girls at soccer and gymnastics, and being an active CrossFit athlete.
