With a strong background in litigation, Carlos “Andy” Uria brings extensive experience to Chartwell as a Partner, representing clients in disputes across state and federal courts in Maryland and the District of Columbia. His practice includes defending businesses in premises liability and personal injury cases, handling contractual disputes, advising on commercial landlord-tenant matters, and litigating transportation-related claims. His clients span the food and beverage, hospitality, and transportation industries, where he provides counsel to mitigate risk and defend against high-exposure claims.
Before transitioning to private practice, Andy served as a Judicial Law Clerk to the Honorable Melvin R. Wright of the Superior Court of the District of Columbia from 2012 to 2015, where he gained valuable insight into trial court proceedings, motion practice, and judicial decision-making. Following his clerkship, he practiced at a large international law firm, where he focused on consumer financial services litigation, sharpening his ability to manage complex commercial disputes.
Andy is admitted to practice in Maryland and the District of Columbia, as well as the U.S. District Courts for the District of Maryland and the District of Columbia. He is also a member of the D.C. Bar Association. He earned his J.D. from The American University Washington College of Law in 2012 and his B.S. from Fairfield University in 2005, where he was also a member of the college soccer team.
