Justin Cuniff joined Chartwell in March 2025 as a Partner, bringing over 15 years of experience handling civil litigation in state and federal courts. His practice encompasses an impressive range of matters, including contracts, product liability, construction and design defect, aviation law, premises liability, trucking and transportation liability, medical and pharmaceutical malpractice, and mass torts. Justin’s depth of experience allows him to manage disputes efficiently while tailoring strategies to meet the unique needs of each client.
Justin is particularly focused on representing companies in the retail, restaurant, and hospitality industries, providing strategic counsel on risk management, insurance, and indemnity issues. He advises clients on the development and implementation of policies to mitigate liability, helping businesses minimize risk while achieving favorable outcomes when disputes arise. His proactive approach includes advising clients on best practices for loss prevention, compliance with industry regulations, and contractual risk transfer strategies. He has successfully defended national retailers, restaurant chains, and hospitality groups against a wide range of claims, from premises liability to product defect disputes.
His work has led to successful results for clients across multiple jurisdictions, including Virginia, Maryland, the District of Columbia, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Vermont, and Maine.
Justin is admitted to practice in Maryland and the District of Columbia, as well as the U.S. District Courts for the District of Maryland and the District of Columbia and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit. He earned his J.D. from the University of Maryland Francis King Carey School of Law in 2005 and his B.A. from Boston College in 2002.
