Chartwell Celebrates Women's History Month!

Throughout March, we’re highlighting the voices of our female attorneys, sharing the women who inspire them, the lessons they’ve learned, and the quotes that motivate them. Each week, we’ll feature remarkable women as they reflect on the impact of women in law and beyond.

This week we feature Leslie L. Whitten, a partner in our Charleston, SC office.

Who is a woman you look up to? Do you have a mentor or colleague you admire?

I love Michelle Obama.  Her philosophy of “when they go low, we go high” is quite sorely lacking and could seriously change our country if followed.

What is the best lesson a woman taught you?

I never really had a personal, positive female mentor until Abbey Lacheen.  She has great insights about being a leader and protecting your partners.

What is your favorite quote by a woman?

“When I'm sometimes asked when will there be enough (women on the Supreme Court) and I say, 'When there are nine,' people are shocked. But there'd been nine men, and nobody's ever raised a question about that.”

-Ruth Bader Ginsburg
