P. ZAK COLANGELO is an associate in Chartwell’s Miami office. Born in New York, New York, Mr. Colangelo graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in English from Washington and Lee University in 2010, where he focused his studies on Medieval British Literature. At Washington and Lee, Mr. Colangelo was also a four-year letterman on the school’s wrestling team. After returning to New York City to spend a year working in the film industry as a directors’-treatment writer, Mr. Colangelo attended the University of Miami School of Law, graduating magna cum laude with his Juris Doctor in 2014.

While in law school, Mr. Colangelo served as Editor-in-Chief of the University of Miami Business Law Review. He also received Book Awards for earning the highest grade in Admiralty Law, Contract Law, Constitutional Law, Federal Income Tax, and Legal Communication & Research II. After graduation, Mr. Colangelo was inducted into the Order of the Coif, a legal honor society reserved for individuals who graduated in the top ten percent of their class.

Along with University of Miami School of Law Professor A. Michael Froomkin, Mr. Colangelo co-authored an article about individuals’ right to defend themselves, their property, and their privacy from commercially and recreationally operated drones. The article is forthcoming in the University of Connecticut Law Review. 

Prior to joining Chartwell, Mr. Colangelo was an associate at Horr, Novak & Skipp, P.A., a boutique maritime law firm in Miami, Florida. At Chartwell, Mr. Colangelo continues to focus his practice on maritime law.
