Mona Sarmadi is managing partner of Chartwell’s New York office and the head of the firm’s New York Workers’ Compensation Practice Group, where she is dedicated to the defense of self-insured entities, insurance carriers, and third-party administrators. With extensive experience in trying cases and appearing at all New York State hearing points, Mona's familiarity with workers’ compensation law judges and claimant’s counsels provides her clients with a significant advantage. Her deep understanding of workers’ compensation law is complemented by her proven skill in analyzing, negotiating, and drafting Section 32 settlement agreements and stipulated agreements. Mona has conducted numerous trials and depositions of medical witnesses and is proficient in legal research and appellate work.
Mona's leadership and dedication were recognized when she was sworn in as President of the Society of New York Workers' Compensation Bar Association in June 2024. This landmark achievement is testament to her commitment to the field, further highlighting her influential presence in the workers’ compensation community.
Prior to joining Chartwell, Mona worked at another prominent workers’ compensation defense firm in New York City, representing self-insured employers, carriers, and third-party administrators in hearings before the Workers’ Compensation Board. She leverages this experience to challenge claim compensability effectively and pursue all available defenses on behalf of her clients.
Mona’s dedication to law and social advocacy extends beyond the courtroom. While attending New York Law School, she secured a prestigious internship at the United Nations-Women Division, where she contributed to policy initiatives supporting women's economic empowerment and monitored rule of law and transitional justice issues. During her academic years, she actively participated in organizations such as the New York Civil Liberties Union, the Legal Association for Women, and the International Law Society, while volunteering for the Everybody Wins Program, a literacy and mentoring initiative. Fluent in Farsi, Mona brings a unique perspective to her practice and is committed to fostering equity and inclusion, reflected in her role on Chartwell's DEI leadership team.
